Claire Weetman is a visual artist based in North-west England , producing artworks for exhibition, facilitating workshops with communities and project managing arts activities. Claire’s lack of a studio forces her out into public spaces, where she records space and responds to movement that is present in the environment. Her latest series of sculptures, Crossings, sees her moving along and across the River Mersey, recording space using lengths of string which are then formed into sculptures. These actions and places are documented by the Downstream:Upstream series of photographs. Drawing and line is often used by Claire in her explorations, most evident recently in the Figure Study series of works. Drawings onto transparent surfaces were inspired by the movement of figures beyond, these works have been shown as temporary installations and photographic documentation exists which is exhibited independently. Documentation is key to Claire’s work, as the process of producing the pieces is often temporary and reliant on the circumstances at the time. Documentation normally takes place in the form of photographs and drawings which are often exhibited alongside each other.
