Sarah Jane Richards
Sarah Jane graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a Fine Art Degree in 2004.
During this time she studied painting in the Cypress College of Art and as an exchange
student in Universitat de Belles Artes, Barcelona.
Sarah Jane’s personal practise is based in observation with current works relating to long
distance walks; walking, drawing and painting. Drawing, prints and quick paintings are made during solo walks, recently the Camino Del Norte to from Irun to Santiago, which are
developed further in her studio practise.
A freelance artist with over twelve years experience Sarah Jane’s work includes designing, managing and facilitating workshops and art activities for young people and adults across the North West. With a person centred approach and a keen interest in the environment, Sarah Jane has worked within the educational sectors at all levels, with mental health groups and hospitals, with community groups and prominent North West Galleries.
Sarah Jane has been commissioned to produce art for the designers Cath Kidston, Celia Birtwell, Orla Kieley and Laura Ashley, also a painted sculpture for Jools Holland, on numerous high profile public art projects throughout the UK. She has created murals and painted sculptures for schools, parks and community arts projects, runs high quality art events and along with artist Sian Hughes, created an award winning artwork for Morriston Hospital in Swansea and Coastline Traces, the Sefton Coast Sculpture Trail.
As a Director and Studio Manager of Arena Studios and Gallery for 5 years Sarah Jane was charged with the day to day running and overall direction of the studio group and gallery, writing successful funding bids, securing the gallery programme and installing charity fund raising events. In 2012 Sarah Jane was the Art coordinator for Stroll: Discovery trails, a high profile public art project with the Greater London Authority and London Olympic Company for the London Olympics 2012.
