Artist Commission, New Words Project, Time to Read, North West Reader Development Partnership

Time to Read is commissioning an artist or designer to create an imaginative response to the work of some of the most exciting and innovative North West ACE-funded publishers: CarcanetCommaSarabandDead Ink and Knives, Forks and Spoons as part of the New Words Project.

Time To Read is a unique partnership of 22 Library Authorities in NW England, working together to promote reading. The NW region covers Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire, all of Greater Manchester and Greater Merseyside.

New Words is a new 18-month project, supported by Arts Council England, to promote and develop relationships between independent publishers and libraries in the North West, broadening reading experiences for existing readers, and developing new readers to libraries and publishers.

This role is ideal for a visual artist or designer interested creating an inspiring, informative and engaging work to display in a wide variety of public libraries to draw attention to an exciting new collection of books and events in public libraries across the North West in 2020.

The artwork should also have an outcome that can be distributed in a digital or printed format alongside the exhibition of books. Materials produced should be transportable or easily replicable through different library spaces. They may also make use of under-utilised spaces such as floors and ceilings. Proposals might include easily reproduced items such as leaflets, bookmarks, headers or empty belly posters. They may also include easily transportable displays.

This is a unique opportunity to inspire libraries and communities to engage with and gain greater appreciation of the work of independent publishers in the North West.

Fee: £2500 for design and creation. £3000 printing and production.

Application deadline: 10am, Friday 8 November 2019
