Pavel Büchler has won the Northern Art Prize 2009

Pavel Büchler has won the Northern Art Prize 2009. He was presented with a cheque for £16,500 by artist Richard Deacon at a buzzing award ceremony last night at Leeds Art Gallery (posted 22.01.10).

Büchler was selected from a shortlist including Nick Crowe and Ian Rawlinson, Rachel Goodyear and Matt Stokes by a panel of judges which included Patricia Bickers (Editor, Art Monthly), Richard Deacon (Artist), Paul Hobson (Director, Contemporary Art Society) and Peter Murray (Director, Yorkshire Sculpture Park) and Tanja Pirsig-Marshall (Curator of Exhibitions at Leeds Art Gallery).

The winner of the public vote was Matt Stokes.
