Pictured here are just some of the creations and artwork by JMU Art Students in the Metquarter shopping area. The students are from various disciplines but mostly textiles ot fashion I think. Looks like it was fun to do, must have been good experience for those involved to be working with some major retail outlets.
The works are displayed throughout the centre, from shop windows to both inside and outside the stores.
Metquarter, being the sponsor of this year’s Turner Prize, gave the students of Liverpool an opportunity to create a piece of art for the public eye that would express their field of expertise whilst working along side some of Liverpool’s most prestigious shops within Metquarter. The students ranged from different years of their degrees and cover a broad spectrum of creativity such as photography, textile, fashion design, architecture, graphic and product design.
You can witness a live mannequin feature in the window of Firetrap that looks so real until she freakishly makes eye contact with you. There is also a recreation of 8 Samsonite suitcases in their shop window that would make anyone think twice about how they choose to carry their luggage the next time they would go away! Mikey’s artist has cleverly created pieces of their jewellery that is entwined with locks of hair.
Pupils aged from 6 to 10 from St Nicholas Catholic Primary School also got involved designing t-shirts and baby grows based on their favourite Liverpool landmarks and heroes for the window display of Bratz.

“It has been fascinating to work on this project and the standard of work produced has been wonderful, especially one of the T-shirts in Bratz with the split design on both LFC and EFC. I feel this represents the loyalty to the city as whole. As Metquarter is architecturally and internally designed on modern contemporary art, this is also a great opportunity for us to showcase the city’s future talented artists and designers and continues our work of engaging with the vibrant creative talent of Liverpool
