An interesting day today.
After spending the morning looking round the Turner Prize exhibition with many others from the nation’s media, then the launch of ‘Visual Arts In Liverpool‘ (or the Big Eight), followed by a tour of the AFoundation exhibitions in Greenland st. it was really nice to spend a quiet half hour with a few of our familiar local artists in the foyer of Liverpool Community College Arts Centre in Myrtle Street.
Here in the window and foyer is a much-deserved first solo show by Jane Hughes who has been working so hard over the past few years as a practicing artist whilst also studying here, then JMU Art School. She has organised or participated in several group shows and is now studying for her Masters at JMU.
The exhibition is called ‘Journeys‘ and is strongly rooted in the landscape, mostly work based on sketches taken during various walks and train rides etc. You can see a lot of the sketchbooks and drawings in the exhibition.
Well worth a look and the Community College should be congratulated for handing over this area to one of their former students. Its not only a recognition of the great progress made since first starting her A level at the College but should also inspire current students to follow suite.
