We met up with photographer Francesco Mellina the other day for an update on his various projects. You may have noticed that he has been very busy since his major exhibition ‘Sound and Vision‘ at the Conservation Centre this time last year.
As well as showing more work at various venues such as The Gallery Liverpool, his packs of postcard size photos are retailing in many places and he has licenced 4 images to appear on the Amplified Ikon T Shirts, 2 of which are already available online from Sugarbullets and will be available in stores Europe-wide soon.
Optimark in Bold Street is, of course, an opticians (highly recommended by both me and Minako) but the proprietor, Chris Fitton, has regular exhibitions of art by local artists on his walls and is delighted to be hosting a collection of Francesco’s iconic images. He is especially looking forward to the large photo of a young Elvis Costello in his distinctive glasses which you will see in the shop window soon.
Between now and the end of August 2010 different pictures will be introduced, some of which have not been shown before. Francesco is also working towards showing the complete exhibition from the Conservation Centre in Italy – Genoa and Bologne are likely candidates.
To get the full details you can listen to my interview with Francesco which I recorded in the noisy but very nice Bold St Coffee, on the defnetmedia website here
The exhibition of photographs by Francesco Mellina continues at Optimark, 72 Bold St, Liverpool until August 31 2010.
