Woolgather Art Prize 2011 – Leeds

This art prize is in Leeds but I really like the sound of it and its self-funding ethos. It’s on around the same time as the Liverpool art prize, I wonder if there’s a train that stops at both stations.

As recent graduates in the city of Leeds, we, as artists, are experiencing a situation of, no money, no tangible grasp of a creative job, not enough critical discourse for our work and no easy way of reaching a public audience. Through a belief that our city can, and hopefully wants to offer more, the Woolgather Art Prize was set up.

As well as a chance to first view the work, the event opening will hold a series of live performances and music.

Check out the website for the shortlisted artists’ profiles including videos on how they sustain their practice and creative lifestyle.
