Hope Centre, Tuebrook, stages pioneering Community Arts and Heritage Festival

A stunningly refurbished church hall will host the first ever Tuebrook Community Arts and Heritage Festival on Thursday September 6 to Sunday September 9 2007

Hope Centre, Tuebrook is part of one of Liverpool’s most important architectural landmarks, the Grade One listed Church of St John the Baptist, on West Derby Road and is an appropriate venue to showcase the huge array of talent that is being nurtured throughout the district.

Sculptor and artist Tom Murphy who owns the well known Liverpool Arts Cafe nearby is helping to organise a diverse range of artistic events that includes an exhibition of work by local artists, talks, demonstrations and discussions.

Artists taking part include
* Judith Railton, Fine Artist
* Frank Hendry, veteran Liverpool landscape painter
* Linda Goulden, abstract artist, Newsham Park
* Deirdre Foy, trained by Adrian Henri and Roger McGough at the famous Liverpool Art School
* Tom Murphy, best known for sculptures of Bill Shankly, Dixie Dean, John Lennon and many more
* Peter Shaw. Portrait painter and landscape artist
* Karl F.F. Hodgson ceramicist


Tom Murphy said: “The festival is unique in that so may artists have come together and are willing to discuss and demonstrate their techniques. It’s a real step forward for Tuebrook which is fast becoming a cultural haven.”

The festival will be launched by Councillor Steve Radford, Chairman of the Liberal party of Great
Britain who lives in Tuebrook and is viewed by local residents and businesses as one the key drivers behind the physical and cultural transformation of Tuebrook ward.

The Festival will start at 12 noon on thursday. Later in the afternoon, Tom Murphy will talk about his work an the making of his most famous works such as Bill Shankly and Dixie Dean

On Friday, Karl F. F. Hodgson will demonstrate some of his ceramic techniques throughout the day. Most of the other artists will also engage in talks or demonstrations.

Local dancers will be performing on Saturday
