Over the last six months culturepool has been working on the Scouse Soul Stew project with the Ultimate Holding Company and Metal. Commissioned by Liverpool PCT, the project setout to ask ‘in life, what ingredients are important to us all, what do we need to enrich our lives and nourish our souls?’ and lots has happened since its launch.
During the summer the project hosted 6 community-led discussions in Clubmoor, The Life Bank, The Picton Children’s Centre, Stephenson Court, The Picturedrome-Wetherspoons Pub and The Williamson Tunnels. You can check out the photos at http://www.scousesoulstewphotos.blogspot.com/. The ideas and thoughts from the people who took part have been sewn onto large banners and we will be weaving them together to create a large an art installation to represent the project. Portraits of some of the participants, along with their ‘ingredients’ for an enriched, soulful life will also form the Scouse Soul Stew recipe book.
Next week on Friday 23rd October 2009 at 13.00 you are all invited to see the Scouse Soul Stew project come together with a large weave of all the banners into one large ‘blanket’, which will be displayed in The Bluecoat, School Lane, Liverpool City centre (See map). Everyone is welcome to join in with the weave itself as we want to keep the dialogue going between local residents, Liverpool PCT staff and the general public. The weave will take place as part of The Living Sketchbook exhibition at The Bluecoat, which includes interactive installations, workshops and discussions and will be open to the public from the 23rd-29th October.
The exhibition is FREE and refreshments will be available. Just turn up, join in and get weaving – no experience necessary! If you want a chance to be involved with the weave please arrive before 13.00.
Cheers, Vinny & Luan
