T Dan Smith. There’s a memorable name from ’60 / ’70s politics, architecture, regeneration etc. He was ‘Mr Newcastle’ ot ‘The Mouth of the Tyne’ so that’s where this exhibition of landscape photographs by the excellent Liverpool-based John Davies is taking place.

An exploration of post-war modernism on Tyneside and its controversial political visionary/PR man T. Dan Smith, whose ambitious regionalist agenda secured international recognition in the 1960s, before he was jailed for corruption in 1974. The great landscape photographer John Davies captures the era’s distinctive and fast-disappearing legacy to the built environment; Amber Films revisit their archives to create an epic video installation out of their extensive interviews with Smith and fellow leftwing councillors; details culled from Smith’s own scrapbooks and files: the exhibition presents a unique account of how things happened, what was achieved and what went wrong.
