FICTION @ SITE – Daytime Event!!!!
Saturday 7th July 2007 12.00 – 18.00 FREE
SITE GALLERY, Albert Dock [down from Tate Liverpool / next to Pan American], Liverpool
Like a zombified Felicia Hemans, quality live poetry club FICTION returns to present the launch of the first Liverpool Poetry Festival.
Held inside SITE Gallery at the Albert Dock, the launch will see afternoon performances from stellar guest poets THICK RICHARD and ANDY CRAVEN-GRIFFITHS, with musical accompaniment from songwriter EUGENE MCGUINESS. Almost 1,000 people showed up throughout the day at the opening Binary Jam event last Saturday so arrive early if you want a seat!
With appearances on Radio 4’s Bespoken Word program, two years at the Edinburgh Fringe, a Glastonbury appearance, and an amateur cannibal film under their belt, THICK RICHARD have consistently bewildered audiences and performers alike. Huge teddybear costumes spotted backstage at Latitude last year have roused particular interest amongst our number.
ANDY CRAVEN-GRIFFITHS is four-sixteenths of hip-hop poetry collective The Urbanian Quarter, 2005 Glastonbury Slam Champion and Manchester Poetry Festival Winner, and host of Leed’s flourishing poetry club, Sticks and Stones.
With support from Huw Stevens on Radio 1 and Janice Long on Radio 2, the sound of EUGENE MCGUINESS is quickly becoming as ubiquitous as hats. Razor sharp lyrics, mesmerising voice and a unique take on singer-songwriting is to blame. A mini album on Domino Publishing is out later this year..
Occupying the gallery space will be the fourth Mercy exhibtion, entitled ‘Demolition’. Considering destruction in all its guises against the backdrop of the 2008 Capital of Culture regeneration programme.
Resident poets NAFE JONES, DAVE BAMFORD and OLLY GRUNER will be rocking the metaphorical Jenga, while host ROSS G SUTHERLAND will present a series of famous poems, rewritten by a computer program.
Also featuring: have-a-go Demolition poetry games for all the family, DJs, dips anyone?
