I think Jack Frost had been working overtime this morning judging by icy pavements on my journey to the Walker this morning for this photo-shoot with Phil Redmond and children from Pleasant Street School. The stilt walking Jack Frost (artemis productions) is a great entertaining character and you can see him this Saturday.

Liverpool schools make decorations for Christmas Tree
This weekend children will gather around a giant Christmas tree outside the Walker Art Gallery making this Christmas one they will never forget. Phil Redmond chairman of National Museums Liverpool has invited local schools to make Christmas decorations that will be hung from the tree by a stilt walking Jack Frost. The event will take place on Saturday 6 December, 2008 from 11:00-16:00.
Schools including Belle Vale Catholic Primary School, Our Lady of Assumption Primary School, Blackmoor Park Junior School, Pleasant Street Primary School, Notre Dame Catholic College, Holly Lodge Girls College, West Derby Comprehensive School and Gateacre Comprehensive School have all been invited to take part.
Phil Redmond, Chair at National Museums Liverpool and Head of Creative Direction at the Liverpool Culture Company said “This is Liverpool’s Capital of Culture Christmas and I wanted to do something with a difference. This is an event that gets children involved right from the beginning giving them a real sense of inclusion and achievement, and is a great way to get the Christmas season started.”
On Saturday 6 December visitors are invited to come to and see Jack Frost decorating the tree outside the Walker Art Gallery at intervals during the day (12noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm). Visitors can also step out of the cold and into the Walker for drop-in sessions and activity workshops.
Visitors can make a traditional lantern or a Victorian Cornucopia to hang on their tree. There are also craft sessions on offer that are suitable for younger children such as Big Art Christmas Cards for ages 3+, and children aged 7+ can join the Festive Trail to find paintings arranged throughout the gallery.
Christmas Storytelling will keep children aged 3+ entertained (11:30, 14:00 and 15:30), while older children aged 7+ can enjoy a Victorian music performance by Peter Bull playing a variety of Victorian music using traditional instruments (13:00, 14:00, 15:00).
Visitors are also invited to World Museum Liverpool where they can visit the newly opened Ancient Egypt exhibition and get involved with workshops and activity sessions throughout the day. These include story telling in the Treasure House Theatre at 13:45 and 15:15, or decoration making in the Weston Discovery Centre between 14:30 – 16:00.
