Artwork of the Week – Michelle Lord

Liverpool artwork of the week 2009-29. ‘Future Ruins’ by Michelle Lord in ‘Apocalypse Now’ at Red Wire 28 July – 8 August 2009

A really good show at Red Wire on the theme of the Apocalypse and there’s a film day on Saturday 1 August from 11.00 onwards.

Future Ruins explores the impact of the modern world upon the urban built environment and its inhabitants, creating images of cityscapes increasingly transformed by science, technology and design. This work received a research and development grant from Arts Council England, images from the ‘Ultimate City’ series recently featured in the exhibition ‘J G Ballard: An Autopsy of the New Millennium’ at the Centre for Contemporary Culture, Barcelona.

Michelle Lord is a multi-disciplinary artist who specialises in constructed photography. Her work explores the connections between literature and architecture and how this relationship can both narrate and represent the communal, historic and built environment that surrounds us.

Recent work is concerned with architecture and fiction, resurrecting landscapes, buildings and text from specific literary narratives that address ideas concerning social utopias.
