Eric Rosoman’s model of Muckle Flugga (Britain’s most northerly lighthouse located on the Shetland Isles) flashes in sync with that of the real one. The crosses marked on the gallery floor pay tribute to many shipwrecks and sailors who have fallen short of Muckle Flugga’s navigational powers and have surrendered to the vast oceans.
Pinned to the wall are the names of the 470 shipwrecks documented around the Shetland Isles from 1148 – 1998. The first two ships are from the Viking era. The names of the ships are often defiant in their titles: ‘Good Design’, ‘Victory’ or ‘Enterprise’…
