An empty property in Liverpool’s Welsh Streets will become a hive of artistic activity over the summer months.
Professional artist Moira Kenny and her supporting team of visual artists is now based at 59 Powis Street delivering a range of activities involving local schools, shop keepers, community groups and individual residents.
The project is part of the award-winning Solid Futures initiative, which engages with local people in areas undergoing housing market renewal. Solid Futures uses creative approaches to explore complex and sometimes controversial issues.
Moira has extensive experience of community-based arts programmes. She told us: “I aim to record the social history of the area, capturing the local identity of the past for present and future generations. This project will help to document the value of community and belonging. I enjoy stories relating to people, their lives, histories and relationship to the surrounding architecture.
