Manchester Art Show 2006 – Cancelled

It just occurred to me that I hadn’t heard anything from the Manchester Art Show organisers this year. It usually runs the last weekend of October and normally a few Merseyside artists are involved.

Turns out its been cancelled. In June, the previous organisers, Engaging Arts sold the rights to EMO ltd who have decided they need another year to make it work.

More here:

  1. Hello,

    Yes me and my father amongst others were meant to show at the MCR ART SHOW 06, as were a number of other North West artists.

    The show was meant to be set in the GMEX, as you may already know? We recevied a very polite notice and email to say that the event had been cancelled which read as follows;

    “Dear Exhibitors

    It is with much regret that we have to inform you Manchester Art Show 2006 is cancelled.

    It has been an incredibly difficult decision to make but ultimately one needed in order to protect the longer term future of Manchester Art Show and its development into new regions throughout the UK.

    As you may be aware, EMO Ltd have paid a considerable amount of money to acquire the intellectual property rights to the show as we firmly believe the development of Art Shows both in Manchester and across the UK has a bright future.?You are probably also aware that we took over ownership of Manchester Art Show at very short notice from Engaging Arts who were planning to close the show down.

    The business plan we adopted has turned out to be unrealistic for 2006, resulting in little or no support available from the Arts Council, a considerably reduced number of exhibitors from those indicated to us and not enough time for us to successfully secure a headline sponsor.

    We are deeply aware of the time and effort you have personally undertaken to develop and create a range of art to exhibit at the show, and for this we thank you all sincerely.

    Our plans now are to devote all our time and effort into developing a programme of Art Shows (including Manchester) for 2007.?We are also discussing ways in which we can demonstrate our appreciation to you for your support and loyalty through our planned programme for 2007.?Once we have finalised these details we will be in touch.

    The deposits paid for 2006 will be returned to you in full as soon as possible.

    If you have any further questions or we can be of any further assistance in the interim please do not hesitate to contact us.

    We look forward to developing a successful business relationship with you throughout 2007….”

    We did receive a refund for the stand fee, but I have to admit myself and my father were gutted after all the hard work we put in, just to be told it was cancelled just a few weeks before it was set to open.

    Fingers crossed for next year eh!?!?

    Nathan Pendlebury
