Gormley Artwork gets go-ahead

I’m looking forward to this, I love Gormley’s work….
gormley.jpgPermission has been given for a major new work by Angel of the North sculptor Antony Gormley to be displayed on a Merseyside beach – before it heads for the bright lights of New York.

The project, called Another Place, has been approved by planners and involves 100 life-sized figures being installed on the waterfront near Crosby Marina for 18 months, starting this summer.

The solid iron statues will rise from the sands at different stages, all of them looking out to sea, facing the horizon.
They are made from casts of the artist and each weigh 650 kilos.

Mr Gormley describes the piece as a poetic response to the individual and universal sentiments associated with emigration.
