Alumni

I eventually got to 68 Hope St today to see the other half of the Alumni exhibition. I’d seen the Senate House half when it opened on April 8th.
In the JMU building I particularly like the mixed media works of Christine McCauley and Lindsey Thompson and the portrait drawings by Susan Relph. In Senate House, Christine O’Reilly Wilson’s orange and red canvases are familiar and Zara Irani’s large square paintings of Koi and blossom are rather nice.
From the press release…
“Following the success of ‘Liverpool 8’ in 2002, the first open exhibition for former students of the Liverpool School of Art, Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool are pleased to present a second exhibition, Alumni. The entries were selected by Professor Colin Fallows, Chair of Research, Liverpool School of Art and Design, LJMU; Professor Jagjit Chuhan, Chair of the Centre for Art International Research, Liverpool School of Art and Design, LJMU; and Matthew Clough, Curator, University of Liverpool.

The exhibition is a collaborative venture, staged across two venues, the Liverpool School of Art and Design 68 Hope Street Gallery, and the Senate House Exhibition Hall in Abercromby Square. Entries were invited from all graduates of the School of Art working in any two dimensional medium suitable for wall hanging. Where ‘Liverpool 8’ featured eight artists, Alumni involves fourteen, a reflection of the very high quality of the competition.”
