Walker hosts Christmas music afternoon
The Nativity – Sounds and Images from the Renaissance
Saturday 19 December 2009 , 14-16.00
Celebrate a traditional Christmas with the Renaissance Music Group and their music session, The Nativity – Sounds and Images from the Renaissance. This performance brings some of the Christmas music by Orlando Lassus a composer of late Renaissance music who was the most famous and influential musician in Europe at the end of the 16th century. Their performance will be set against the backdrop of some of the depictions of the Christmas story in Renaissance art on display in the Medieval and Renaissance room. There will also be projections on the wall of artworks from The Royal Collection, The British Library British Museum, The National Gallery and the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Netherlands).
The Musicians Gallery runs until the end of March 2010 and offers visitors the chance to enjoy the magnificent artwork the Walker Art Gallery has on display whilst listening to an eclectic mix of music. The programme will showcase soloists and small ensembles from the pool of local talent as well as professional musicians who maybe be performing in the city in other venues.
Jazz at the Walker still continues, with our resident jazz masters Tony Judge and the Martin Smith Quartets playing alternate Sundays
