Over the months of July, August and September the Walker Art Gallery is hosting many free events, exhibitions and workshops for all the family to enjoy including:


Cecil Beaton: Portraits
Until 31 August
Open daily 10am – 5pm
Images of top celebrities are displayed in this stylish exhibition of photographs by Cecil Beaton. Elegant and glamorous shots of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Onassis, Audrey Hepburn, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles all feature in this retrospective of five decades of Beaton’s remarkable career.
Exhibition organised by the National Portrait Gallery, London.

New Radicals: From Sickert to Freud
10 July to 20 September, 2009
Open daily 10am – 5pm
Check out some of the Walker’s stunning British masterpieces. This exhibition explores the development of art in Britain from the start of the 20th century to the period just after the Second World War and tells the unique stories behind artworks by the likes of L.S. Lowry and Lucian Freud.

Something Wild … storytelling week

Something Wild… at the Walker Art Gallery is our brand new children’s storybook.  Characters Keith and Ali have never visited an art gallery and our fun storytelling session follows them as they explore the gallery and some of the wonderful paintings and objects on display. (suitable for over 5’s)

Big Art for Little Artists

Craft activities 11am – 4pm
Big Art for Little Artists is our children’s gallery that brings art to life through paintings, sculpture, toys and costumes. Get creative with hands-on activities and interactive fun!
