WALK UNKNOWN – Live Art Action
26 September 2009
Big Issue vendors from across the North West will be performing live in Liverpool this Saturday 26 September 2009 from 6.00 pm.
The event is part of Crass Routes Walk Unknown project. The vendors will perform at the UK’s first Recovery March held in Liverpool this year. Local artists Janette Porter and Marko Muller from Crass Routes have been working with The Big Issue in the North and ARC, a centre for the homeless in Birkenhead since 2007.
The march will take place from St. Georges’s Hall, to Upper Pitt street in China Town, Liverpool UK.
Following on from the success of Walk Unknown’s live performance in Liverpool City Centre in 2008, Crass Routes was awarded a a grant from Liverpool Culture Company to extend their work across the North West. Focusing on the fragile environment and our fragile lives Porter and Muller have been running workshops with vendors this year.
The March will take place from 6.00-7.00 pm, followed by the Walk Unknown Performance and at 8.00 pm a concert celebration at The Liverpool Lighthouse in Walton.
During the performance the Walk Unknown participants will be inviting the march participants to join in the live art action. Using bricks from the previous years a temporary sculpture will be created whilst interaction from the walkers will take the form of attaching a note of rememberance/prayer/thought to the sculpture.
Workshops for the project took place at St Luke’s Church throughout the summer months, and a memorial sculpture was on display there for some months. Crass Routes will also return to St Luke’s for a public celebration event in the Autumn
