Mark Harrison’s Monster Illustration Show
3 November – 28 November 2009
Since moving to Liverpool from Watford in September 1994 with a HND in illustration Mark Harrison has been working freelance. In 1997 became a member of Arena Studios on Duke Street and in 2005 became a full time director of the organisation for two years alongside his illustration practice.
‘Initially working in pen and watercolour and progressing to acrylics I started producing illustrations digitally in 2000 from scanned drawings. My work has been published in numerous magazines over the last 15 years including Select, Empire, Mojo, Mizz, Radio Times and The Guardian Guide of which a selection of my personal favourites will be on display’.
In March 2008 Mark returned to painting in acrylics working exclusively towards this show. These new works form the main part of his first solo exhibition and include a variety of characters from sketchbooks influenced by a childhood love of comics, picture books, toys, films, cartoon animation and illustrations in 1980s computer game magazines.
