There are several pubs in Liverpool named The Grapes. This, naturally, leads to confusion. There was a Grapes pub in Windsor St. which has now been turned into artists studios / gallery space called the Royal Standard.
It seems someone thought it was the Mathew St Grapes
From the Echo..
MATHEW Street’s legendary Grapes pub is creating a new display dedicated to the 1960s with the help of the Beatles’ first manager.
Owners of the historic site, made famous as a favourite drinking hole of the young Beatles, denied they were changing the Grapes’ name or reopening it as an artist-run gallery.
Reports in newspapers last week suggested they planned to rename it the Royal Standard.
Instead, owner Paul Bristow, 39, says he is dedicated to preserving both the name and history of the Grapes and is bringing together new memorabilia to go on show.
