The Royal Standard: Live!

LOUISA MARTIN

The Royal Standard presents a series of three live events taking place during the summer. Each event invites an artist to showcase new performance work, all of which are vastly different and entirely experimental.

To continue The Royal Standard: LIVE!, Louisa Martin will present a new performance work.

This work will deal with inheritance; what does this generation value as tools for self-definition and how is this captured by society? She will venture beyond the surface of social standing, material things and identity politics and uncover what it is to own and pass on feelings in a domain which has been commercialised.

Sound and projected image will form the background for a performer to interact with the gallery space.

Martin works primarily with video, sound and live performance, exploring sub-linguistic modes of perception and expression related to embodiment. In 2014 she won a Whitstable Biennale Open Call Award and had a solo show at Bloc Projects, Sheffield. Other recent exhibitions include Behind Glass, OPEN SOURCE Festival, The Everything and Nothing Problem, Jerwood Space ; Album2, Five Years; Of Course, Stour Valley Arts.

The Royal Standard is an artist-led gallery, studios and social workspace in Liverpool. Through a dynamic and challenging gallery programme that brings together local, national and international artists, we showcase exciting and innovative exhibitions and events, working with the most outstanding recent graduates and emerging artists as well as more established practitioners and other artist-led initiatives.
