The Quilling Guild Prepares to Celebrate 30th Anniversary in Liverpool

QG Anniversary PosterThe Quilling Guild will be staging a major international festival showcasing the art of paper filigree at Liverpool University over the weekend of 10 – 11 August 2013.
The event, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Guild’s foundation in 1983, will be held at Derby & Rathbone Hall, Greenbank Conference Centre, North Mossley Hill Road, Liverpool, L18 8BH, open to the public from 12:30 to 17:30 on Saturday 10 August and from 10:00 to 16:00 on Sunday 11 August.  (Admission charge: £1, accompanied children free.)  During public opening times there will be drop-in workshops for beginners.
Quilling, or ‘paper filigree’, is the centuries-old art of rolling narrow strips of paper and then shaping them to create exquisite and intricate designs.  It can be applied to a wide range of projects, from simple gift tags and greetings cards to the creation of pictures, jewellery, freestanding paper sculptures and the decoration of three-dimensional objects such as boxes.
The highlight of the Liverpool festival will be extensive displays of quilled artwork by filigree artists from all over the UK and around the world.  Members of the Quilling Guild will vote on entries in a number of different competition categories, resulting in the declaration of winners for the Guild’s prestigious and highly coveted awards.
“We have planned an exciting programme of events for the weekend, encompassing demonstrations, ‘make and take’ workshops, trade stands selling all manner of quilling supplies and displays of quilled art to take your breath away”, says Josie Jenkins, Secretary of the Quilling Guild, who is also an active member of the Arena Studios & Gallery in Liverpool.  “Visitors will have ample opportunity to learn about quilling, share ideas and gain inspiration from some of the world’s best-known quilling authors and tutors.  Best of all, the event will be spread over two whole days, providing a feast for the senses in every way!”
