The Nebula Collective – Liverpool Community College Fine Art Degree Show
10 -18 June 2009
‘The Nebula Collective’ Liverpool Community College Fine Art Foundation Degree Show takes place at M-USE (the old Arena Studios building) in Duke Street. Challenging paintings, tactile textiles, Installation and video by students of the Arts Centre are in their first public exhibition.
The Group, who call themselves the Nebula Collective, have been studying Fine Art for two years and the exhibition is intended to be a showcase for their latest work before they embark on a career in Liverpool’s thriving Art scene or go on to complete a BA honours for one year in Fine Art at Hope University.
“Some of us intend to carve out careers as independent artists, while others plan to enter the teaching profession” said the Nebula Collective spokesperson Jodie.
As a group we feel it is more than a course of practical study and art history, more that we have explored making art that is relevant now. Liverpool architecture, urban and rural, social commentary, intervention are just a few of the areas we have dealt with.
For us art is not only about working away in a studio, it is working as a collective to have a real experience of curating our own show from start to finish. As the Nebula Collective, we have organised this exhibition over the last 12 months, from researching possible venues through to the installation. This has given us the opportunity to gain skills in publicity, marketing, fundraising and sponsorship.
I borrow a quote from Shakespeare as final advice to the Nebula group as they graduate – ‘Strive mightily, but eat and drink as friends’, Geoff Molyneux, course leader.
