2 – 3 July 2011 at The Gallery Clayton Sq. ‘From the Abstract’ – exhibition of works by Hetherlow Community Centre.
Viewing: Sat 2 July 13-14.00
Artist, photographer and educator Karen Brookman is to celebrate the launch of Aphrodite Art CIC with an event exhibiting work from one of the community centres she has recently worked with this coming July, at Madelainartz, Clayton Square, Liverpool.
Karen, who designs and delivers arts based activities for children and adults with learning difficulties and mental health issues, is to celebrate the efforts of members of Hetherlow Community Centre, with a group of adults with a range of learning difficulties who have undertaken an abstract art course.
The course involved teaching basic art skills, a gallery visit for inspiration and support to create their very own piece of artwork to keep!
Karen explains how it was a pleasure to work with the centre ‘using abstract art as a means to explore their hidden talents and providing them with a platform to express themselves. ’
Aphrodite Art CIC is a community interest company that provides sustainable opportunities for people to socialise, access and enjoy the arts, with the aim of raising self-esteem, promoting health and well-being and community cohesion. In addition to this Karen also works with schools and adult learning centres to provide more educational based sessions.
The exhibition ‘From the Abstract’ takes place on 2nd July 12.30 till 5 and 3rd July 12.30 to 4pm. Everybody is welcome, with refreshments available and live music on both days.
