the Bluecoat Print Studio is One Year Old

The new print studio that opened after the big Bluecoat refurbishment celebrated its first anniversary last weekend and we called in for tea and biscuits. Its a nice cosy place with room for only about half a dozen students and a large print press along with all the smaller stuff. There was a full day’s workshop in progress with the renowned wood engraving expert Anne Desmet RE showing some lucky students how to create delightful prints on various materials using different woods and specialist tools.

Anne was also in her native Liverpool for the opening of her excellent exhibition ‘Urban Evolution‘ at the Cornerstone which you really have to see, I’ll say more about that at a later date.

The print studio is run by the amazing and tireless Emma Gregory who has programmed more talks and workshops including a talk this Saturday 17 October. Daphne Warburg and Jason Hicklin RE have been collaborating on prints and exhibitions for the past three years. Here the artists present sketchbooks, diaries, plates and prints from their most recent trip and discuss in detail their shared practice.
