From its bashful beginnings to its bittersweet endings, writers have always tried to capture the unruly emotions of love – and Liverpool writers are no exception. What better time than Valentine’s Day to map a romantic route around the city with this literary walking tour? Heart & Sole explores the places and people that have inspired the city’s lovelorn writers and looks at how both celebrated and ‘common-or-garden’ love affairs have been immortalised in their poetry, fiction, letters and memoir. With readings from the work of Liverpool poets Felicia Hemans (pictured), Adrian Henri, Roger McGough and Brian Patten, but also writers with biographical links to the area including poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy and the Greek poet Constantine Cavafy. Heart & Sole isn’t just for lovers, but for everyone intrigued by Liverpool’s literature of love.
