The Rheged Gallery opened in the Rheged Centre in 2011. They show 5 exhibitions per year varying from painting and sculpture to photography, family focussed exhibitions and multidisciplinary art exhibitions. This year the gallery has welcomed over 85,000 visitors through its doors.

The summer exhibition is called Bricks in Time: Hands on History in LEGO. Within which visitors can travel back in time with an interactive LEGO exhibition, and discover models made by professional LEGO Artists which bring to life some of Britain’s important historical turning points. Highlights¬†include an exclusive 8 metre long model of The Flying Scotsman, a giant diorama of Saxon life, Beatrix Potter and her creations, Tudor monarchs and a large model of Lowther Castle, all bustling with minifigs and LEGO characters dressed in period costumes.

Alongside the models visitors will be able to try a range of activities, from racing their own wind powered train, creating a model for our zip wire, to constructing catapults and creating family portraits in LEGO, before testing their skills against the professionals in a timed building challenge.

Rheged are looking for a number of Gallery Assistants to work with us on our major LEGO history exhibition on fixed term contracts for the summer, successful candidates will need to be bright, energetic and enthusiastic. Previous experience with working in a busy customer facing role would be advantagious but is not essential and a keen interest in arts, craft and design would be beneficial. You will be working with families and children and helping them to complete a range of creative and fun activities within the exhibition. Working as part of a team you will help make visitors to the exhibition feel at home and empower them to get the most out of the visit.

Hours: 21.75 – 29 hrs per week over 3 or 4 shifts

Salary: £7.20 per hour (other rates apply for under 18)
