‘Tales of the Town’ Exhibition, Bollington
One Five West, artists Sophie Bullock and Anna Horton, are embarking on an interactive, community-led oral histories project, ‘Tales of the Town’ in Bollington. They are working with local anthropologist, Zak Tanamli, to delve under the layers of memories that make up the rich fabric of the town through collecting stories from local residents. Through this, we are capturing their tales, and turn them into sacred storytelling objects to be re-discovered, and enjoyed by old and new audiences alike. The objects’ will be located at several locations around the tiown that reference the memories of the residents. People touching these objects will trigger sensor technology, and when activated the recorded stories will be played for those to hear.
During the 3-day exhibition, One Five West, are commissioning a fold out map that will allow the public to locate all of the art objects. This map will also be an information source for the exhibition with information about outcomes of the project, who was involved, and where the art objects will be housed after the projects finished. This map will be used as advertising prior to the 3-day event opening and distributed in places such as local shops, the community centre and libraries.
We are looking to commission one Cheshire based student to design the physical fold out map as well as a pdf version for online use for the ‘Tale of the Town’ project. Before starting the commission the selected student will have a meeting with One Five West to discuss design ideas and see locations around the town.
There will be a fee of £75
