St Luke’s Youth Creative, a youth group creating music and drama inspired by Walton’s First World War history, is putting on its first show, Over By Christmas.
Since September the group, split into ages 6-10 and 11-16, have been learning everything they can about how Walton coped with war. Now, as Christmas approaches and the centenary commemorations continue across the country, they are giving the community a night of music hall, food and fun.
Working with local theatre company The Suitcase Ensemble, they are currently putting the finishing touches to the show, which will feature famous wartime songs and take inspiration from the musical “Oh! What a Lovely War.”
The event is part of St Luke’s Church’s “Marking the Days” World War One remembrance project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Arts Council, and will also feature the unveiling of a local World War One Calendar. This will display Walton’s key wartime dates, based on The Suitcase Ensemble’s research into local history undertaken for the project.
Finally, to make the night complete, there will be fish and chips for everyone.
Booking for the event is essential, and people can book in person at the Church or by emailing Fiona at firstname.lastname@example.org.
