Many of you will know Dr Paul O’Keeffe as the excellent auctioneer at various art auctions around Liverpool, others will have witnessed his entertaining art talks at the Walker, Lady Lever and other venues but did you know that he is also a damned good art history writer? He has been shortlisted for The William MB Berger Prize for British Art History 2009 for his biography of Benjamin Robert Haydon. I have a copy here and I’m enjoying it but I find such little time for book-reading it will be a while before I finish it and able to review it properly.
The prize will be awarded at a reception at the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London on Wednesday 7 July 2010, when the prize of £5000 will be presented by The Hon Lady Roberts, Royal Librarian.
The winner is chosen from a Short List of six and we wish Paul the best of luck.
