THURSDAY 21 July 2011 18.00 – 21.00, Static Gallery. Jordan Marani Open Studio
Australian Artist in Residence Open Studio Event – Ten Pound Poms and Other Stories
Jordan Marani has been the Australian Artist in Residence at Static Gallery & Studios since May 2011. During the three months of his residency he has made work, networked with local artists and curators and made research trips across the UK.
For the Open Studio, Ten Pound Poms and other Stories, Jordan is creating an installation reflecting on his experience in Liverpool. The installation will comprise drawing, watercolours, sculpture, television and other media.
Jordan’s residency is part of the on-going Australian Artists in Residence project supported by the Australia Council for the Arts and hosted by Liverpool Biennial in association with Static, which has been running since January 2010.
Jordan adds, “I’m interested in encryption. The idea of ‘cryptos’ comes from Ancient Greek meaning anything buried or hidden. Secret societies, world orders and fateful dates. I often play with text in my work. Double meanings, hidden messages, visual puns, number chains, word play etc. etc. – I do a lot of crosswords in my spare time. Come and see what I’ve done and help me celebrate my time in lovely Liverpool.”
Andrew McQualter will be the Australian Artists in Residence from 4 August – 31 October.
