Yes we do venture over the water to the Wirral occasionally. Especially if we hear about a new gallery opening and this one right opposite New Brighton station opened just a few months ago.
Called ‘New Bright Art‘ which is quite clever I thought, its run by John and Eileen McChrystal and is one of a small row of shops which tend to change a fair bit over the years. This place was a gallery about 30 years ago but has been a card shop more recently.
Their philosophy is to be accessible to the local community and to support artists in a practical way. They’ve certainly been active in a short space of time getting involved in the local schools, colleges, community groups with competitions and collaborations and plan to run workshops for children and adults later in the year.
They have an eclectic and humorous mix of work which ranges from untrained people, students, emergent and established local and international artists including jewellery crafted by London based designers Tal & Alex
They offer artists and students access to discounted giclee (on very latest HP printer) printing, a discounted framing service and very low commission rates on sales.
There are not enough galleries on the Wirral especially in this corner, New Bright Art looks promising and we wish them every success.
