Moxon, Lucy

I have recently graduated from studying Fine Art at Liverpool John Moores University; I am now pursuing my artistic career within the city – creating artworks within my studio space, setting up exhibitions and working on commission based work.

I have always been involved in creating artwork that revolves around a sense of identity – or lack of it. I am a fervent portrait artist whom strives to capture life within my work and a sense of who my model really is. I endeavour to produce art that spectacles real imagery that society would rather conceal. My work shatters false identity and makes no effort to hide the non-socially acceptable.

My most recent work consists of a series of paintings entitled ‘The Over 69-ers’ (see below). For this project I turned my gaze to older women in the porn industry – in particular the way older women’s innate sexuality is traded out as a fetish object in the pornography image. Age in this context is a deviance – an observation that has implications also on the entirety of feminine appearances. The corporal intimacy and monumental scale of my paintings recharges the visual plane of these images with personality and the potency of sensual encounter. I believe that it is not the body per se that is worthy of investigation, but rather the representation of it. This series is envisioned to make my audience reflect on the role of women in society.

I mainly work figuratively and I love portraiture – using a wide range of media, big or small! For commissioned based work please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
