Living with the Romans
23 July- 31 December 2005
North West England is well known for its Roman sites, from the great legionary fortress at Chester, forts at Manchester and Northwich, and civilian settlements such as Wilderspool, near Warrington. But until recently little was known of the native people who for generations farmed the land much as their ancestors had done. Their homes and farms are difficult to find and it is only through the patient work of archaeologists, including the NML Field Archaeology Unit in Liverpool, that we have been able to uncover traces of their lives.
