Mimei Thompson ‘Internal Geometry’ in the Dickens Gallery

Mimei Thompson: Internal Geometry. 23 January – 8 March 2009
The Dickens Gallery in St George’s Hall.

Can’t believe it was as long ago as 23 January we went to the opening of this exhibition. It finishes this Sunday so this is now a ‘last chance to see’ notice.

The Dickens gallery is actually more of a corridor in the cell area downstairs, we thought it might be an ideal place for artists in residence who could live and work in the empty cells then exhibit their work in the gallery.

Thompson’s work depicts dark, mutating cosmic worlds, populated by cartoon brains, clouds, probing eyeballs and curious creatures vying for attention. These alien beings are playful, surprised, anxious and cheeky, forming surreal portraits in a constant state of flux and unrest.

Mimei Thompson studied at the Royal College of Art and the Glasgow School of Art. Recent shows include Mime 1 at Transition Gallery, London, Axis Future50 at PSL, Leeds and the Studio Voltaire Annual Members’ Exhibition 2007, selected by Stuart Comer, Polly Staple and Christabel Stewart. Mimei Thompson is represented by Ceri Hand Gallery.
