Metal, Edge Hill Station, L7 6ND
Metal look back in history with Paris based organisation, Paléo Energétique for creative inspiration to solve the urgent environmental issues of today.
Edge Hill Station Garden was first re-developed by Metal in 2011. Earlier this year Metal secured financial support from Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative to develop a yearlong programme of art, food and gardening. Throughout the course of 2017 we’ll be exploring how public green spaces benefit our day-to-day lives and can drive awareness of environmental sustainability.
As part of this programme Metal, Liverpool is delighted to announce that it will host Paris based organisation, Paléo Energétique for a special edition Future Station event.
Paléo Energétique is an open source, collaborative research project investigating sustinable energy inventions that history has forgotten. From ancient hydraulic machines to solar thermal concentrators their work aims to inspire engineers, designers, inventors, artists and communities to look back in history for inspiration to solve the urgent environmental issues of today.
Paléo Energétique will give a public presentation of their research and projects, broadening our understanding of historic and present day sustainable energy technologies and innovations. The evening will include an open discussion exploring how arts led activity can stimulate innovative responses around the renewable energy and sustainability agenda in our surrounding area.
This event also forms part of an open call commissioning process, inviting artists to respond to the theme of – utilising Edge Hill Station Garden to encourage people to use public transport.
Mary Jane Edwards, Metal says: “We’re delighted to host Paléo Energétique from Paris and share their research into historic forms of energy based innovations. It is vitally important for us to look back and reflect upon our communities globally significant heritage status and think about ways in which art might be able to inspire renewed creative thinking and innovation. Especially given our historic location at Edge Hill Station – the oldest active passenger railway station in the world.”
Cédric Carles, Founder of Paléo Energétique says: “Paleo Energetic is happy and proud to be giving a presentation in Liverpool at venue with such a rich history in science, technology and engineering. We hope our visit will encourage people in the UK to access and contribute interesting inventions to our public research, and more cross-Europe collaborations to emerge!”
