Looking for some fun activities this summer? Make a Lego version of your own house, build a competition-winning sandcastle in the shape of Houses of Parliament, or maybe feast your eyes and tastebuds on a real ale walking tour of the hidden architecture of Liverpool.
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is inviting people all over Liverpool to celebrate the places and buildings they love this summer with its annual Love Architecture Festival.
The 10 day festival offers the chance to get involved in a host of activities, including many events specifically for children and families. The Liverpool area has lots of activities ranging from city tours to sandcastle competitions, from film screenings to a chance to try your hand at the latest Lego architecture series. There are also a number of free downloadable walking tours.

Beat the Architect (Family Event)
Saturday 22 June, 10.00 – 14.00, LEGO store Liverpool ONE, FREE
Show off your LEGO skills as you take on an architect to see who can build Nelson’s column the quickest. Those who do beat the architect get a prize to take home whilst the quickest on the day will win a special LEGO model.
Ask an Architect
Saturday 22 June, 11.00 – 17.00, John Lewis Liverpool, FREE
Looking to revamp or extend your home but not sure what to do? Pop along to John Lewis in Liverpool ONE to get free advice from an architect who can help you realize your dream with creative design expertise.
Sandcastle Competition (Family Event)
Sunday 23 June, 13.00 – 16.00, West Kirby, FREE
Come down to West Kirby beach to show off your sandcastle building skills and compete against other teams to win a prize. All ages welcome!
Friday 28 & Saturday 29 June, 11.00 – 17.00, Liverpool ONE Dome, FREE
Help the Love Architecture team map the views of the people of Liverpool about the buildings that make up the city. Decide whether a building is sub-zero, cool, uncool or seriously uncool!
Of Time and the City Screening
Saturday 29 June, 15.00 – 17.00, FACT, charge applies
Terence Davies’ interpretation of Liverpool past and present blends a poetic early account of his life with contemporary and archive footage. The afternoon will start with a talk on the architecture of Liverpool.
Sunday 30 June, 17.00 – 19.30, FACT, charge applies
Fritz Lang’s 1927 masterpiece is an iconic futuristic fairy tale which has been digitally restored to include 30 minutes that was lost to the world for 80 years.
RIBA Liverpool City Tours
Various days, £7.50/£5.00
Join the RIBA guides on one of several walking tours that use the buildings and spaces of the city to tell the story of Liverpool past, present and future. You can learn more about Hope Street, discover the Ropewalks area or find out how the waterfront and surrounding area developed over the years. There is a 10% discount on all tours during the festival.
