Liverpool is also the Capital of Festivals. There are so many they can come and go before you even realise.
Fortunately the Irish Festival 2007 runs long enough to be sure of catching at least some of it but we’ve been so busy this week we neglected to mention that this splendid event now in its 4th year, opened earlier this week and ends on November 4th with a concert by Cara Dillon in St George’s Hall concert room.
Of course, Mike Absalom’s exhibition of paintings at View Two gallery is the main focus for us visual art-lovers and very good it is too.
This year’s venues include Liverpool Community College, the Royal Court Theatre, the Pogue Mahones pub in Seel Street, The World Museum, and The Edinburgh and Peter Kavanagh pubs.
Many of the largest events will be staged at the Philharmonic Hall, with The Dubliners appearing on Friday October 19 (tonight!) and Clannad’s Moya Brennan appearing with the strings of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on October 21. Unusually, the festival also features the traditional Scottish group, Capercaillie, also at the Phil on October 31.
