Peter will be delivering a reading of his work, accompanied by visual projections of his drawings as part of Liverpool Biennial’s Talking Practice programme.

Born in Hannover and based in Brussels, Wächtler’s work is concerned with questions of genres (book illustrations, animated animals, erotic drawings, depiction of nature and pain) and altering their educational, empathic or oppressive aspects. Using a variety of mediums, including sculpture, drawing, animation, sound and video, the most recurring element in his work is the use of text, be it voice-over, subtitle, lyrics or short stories. These texts usually speak of social situations, hierarchies and struggles and are often distorted exaggerations of love stories, historical dramas, horror scripts or coming-off-age legends.

Talking Practice is a monthly series of talks in Frederick’s Bar by leading professionals in the fields of art, architecture, design, film and literature. The talks invite the speakers to deliver performance, discuss their practice, research methodologies and thinking in an informal setting.

Liverpool Biennial 2014 will take place 5 July – 26 October 2014
