Liverpool Artists Network is Born

Liverpool based artists, Colette Lilley and Josie Jenkins recently made an open call to artists, art venues, studios, organisations, groups and collectives in Liverpool to meet on 27 October 2015 at the Well Space with an invitation to “make something happen”.

The intention was to get together the ‘doers’ of the independent Liverpool art scene, to talk about having a more joined up approach to the delivery of events and exhibitions and better communication to make more opportunity for artists to work together.

The proposal was not to set up an overarching organisation, but rather a consortium which will be a platform for artists in Liverpool to meet and make things happen better.

And so from this meeting at the Well Space, Liverpool Artists Network was born.

Liverpool Artists Network will provide:
· Informal networking meetings every three months.
· A mailing list and online forum for artists to have conversations, recruit people who they want to work with, develop ideas and plan events.
· A facility for artists who are interested in delivering events and exhibitions to be matched with other artists and organisations according to their skills and availability.
· A website with information about the Network and including a directory of art organisation, art venues, studios, groups and collectives from across Merseyside.

Liverpool Artists Network would like to invite all artists, arts organisations, art venues, collectives and groups to join its mailing list and forum.

When you join the Liverpool Artists Network mailing list you will be informed of any meeting dates and important news about the Network. You will also be sent an invitation to join the SLACK forum. The forum is made up of ‘channels’, a bit like chat rooms, where discussions can take place under different topics. Anyone can start or contribute to a channel. There is also the facility for private group messaging. The forum has already enabled collaborative work to begin and is stimulating interesting discussions.

Watch this space for the launch of Liverpool Artists Network website. The directory that it will feature is intended to give a basic overview of what is out there for anyone interested in the Merseyside art scene. It will list under the headings of:

Artists Studios
Art Organisations and Groups
Galleries and Exhibition Venues

Listings will only include a name and website address (or email address if no website exists) and will be a work in progress as it grows.

If you would like to be included in the directory, please contact Josie and Colette at josiejenks@yahoo.co.uk with your name, website address and which category you feature under (maybe more than one). To be added to the Liverpool Artists Network mailing list and SLACK forum, please also email josiejenks@yahoo.co.uk. This email address will soon change to an official Liverpool Artists Network one.

Whether you’re an individual looking for other artists to work with, a studio group looking for like minded organisations to partner with, or a collective looking for new members, the Network is here to help you connect with the people you want to work with.

Josie and Colette would like to thank The Well Space https://www.facebook.com/TheWellSpaceLiverpool1 for their role in providing a fantastic venue for Liverpool Artists Network’s initial meeting.
