LIGHT NIGHT – Il mattino ha l’oro in bocca?

portfolio-100light-night-sm FRIDAY 14 May 2010 at 49 New Bird Street L1 0DN. 18-22.00. Il mattino ha l’oro in bocca?
This Italian phrase literally translates to “the morning has gold in its mouth”: a proverbial expression suggesting that people perform and think best in the morning (a conventional notion challenged during the Light Night). In a tribute to Felix Gonzalez Torres performed by Filip Gilissen, this ONE NIGHT ONLY event will end in an explosion of glitter and light.

This is an event not to be missed! FRIDAY 14 MAY 6-10 pm

49 New Bird Street L1 0DN

Attendees are advised to come around 9 pm to appreciate the full effect.

Upon entering an ordinary warehouse, viewers will gradually get lost in a labyrinth of gold curtains; the never-ending series of shimmering layers will destabilize perception and understanding of the surrounding industrial space. Once emerged from this long golden corridor, the viewer will be in the presence of four cannons, which will explode only once during the exhibition – a volcanic cloud of metallic confetti sedimenting onto the floor to form a precious gold carpet. The anticipation of the singular event will be palpable to all present. In Gilissen’s work surprise replaces abandon, joyfulness sadness, whilst gold takes over the entire place; the glittering and opulent effect contrasting with the rough nature of the site.
