Various dates and times (see website)

March 2015 sees the return of LEAP festival, as organisers MDI celebrate their 21st birthday.

LEAP 2015 will bring quality dance experiences to Liverpool and offer the chance for visitors to see dance at Unity Theatre and The Capstone Theatre, learn to dance at the LEAP MDI Studio 24 through the class programme, discuss dance during creative conversations and dance the night away at a special Dance Hall club night!

Kicking off the festival performances at Unity Theatre on 4 & 5 March will be PanicLab’s new show R.I.O.T which sees a comic book come to life and question what might a superhero look like in today’s troubled world. The festival will also feature performances from Arno Schuitemaker, (Netherlands) Company Boukousou  (France) and Liz Aggiss (UK) alongside evenings of performances featuring dance from the north and a new event featuring graduate dance companies. There will also be an evening of performances from the Moving Dance Forward Associates: showcasing a variety of artists based in Merseyside and Manchester.

unnamed-2MDI partners, Merseyside Dance Promoters Network (MDPN) will additionally present work at The Arts Centre (Ormskirk) and The Atkinson (Southport)

New for LEAP 2015, MDI have developed an exclusive programme of events at their base: Studio 24 on Hope Street. This programme will feature dance classes including Ballet, Contemporary, and Fusion that are open to all, sessions aimed at young people aged 14-18, a one-off ‘Tingalayo’ session – an offshoot from MDI’s well loved African and Caribbean children’s summer school, and professional level dance classes given by some of the festival’s visiting artists. Alongside the class programme activities in the studio will also feature discussions with festival artists, film screenings and open stage events as well as open studio space for local artists to create and share their work.
