Liverpool-based artist Katriona Beales (www.katrionabeales.com) is in Linz, Austria on a short research trip as part of the Arts Council funded Riposte project, an on-going dialogue between 7 artists in Linz and 7 in Liverpool.
This is Katriona’s second trip to Linz, after an initial one in November 2009. Whilst there the artist is researching and collecting materials in order to develop more 3D collages as a continuation of her ‘All the worlds’ series. A selection will be exhibited as part of Riposte’s contribution to the Bluecoat’s forthcoming Global Studio show – opening in Liverpool in April 2010. This show will then travel to Linz, and will be open to the public from July to September in a slightly different format across 2 venues – the Atelierhaus Salzamt and the Artist Association MAERZ.
Katriona will host a discussion in Linz on the 1st of March, around the theme ‘Mask wearing – a modern day survival strategy?’ examining issues around hiddenness and openness within contemporary society a theme underpinning her work.
