Paul Rooney: McKenzie WED 19 – SAT 22 May 2010 open daily 16.00 – 19.00 McKenzie is a new sound work by Paul Rooney inspired by a local Liverpool legend about William McKenzie, a gambler who is said to have made a pact with the devil to ensure a winning hand in a poker game. Worried that the devil would claim him if he was buried underground, he left instructions that he was not to be buried, but instead encased in a pyramid, sat upright at a card table, with a winning hand of cards. This tomb still stands in a derelict graveyard on Rodney Street. Location: St. Andrew’s Church, Rodney Street. Free admission

Liverpool artist Colin Serjent is staging a photography exhibition in the city depicting various and sometimes unusual forms of recycling initiatives taking place in the city. Examples of recycling he has portrayed in his exhibition titled 'Focus On Recycling', include Urban Strawberry Lunch, who make musical instruments from waste materials and found objects and perform them at gigs; and C.U.T.S (Communal Use Textiles Studio) on Slater Street, who stage workshops of sewing and screen-printing using recycled materials.
