USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR A WEEKEND OF PLAIN SAILING Visitors heading to Liverpool for The Tall Ships' Races 2008 are being urged to leave their car at home.
An estimated 800,000 people are expected to flock to the UK's European Capital of Culture, from Friday, July 18 to Monday, July 21, to witness one of the largest Tall Ships' fleets ever seen in British waters.

TALL SHIPS’ RACES FLEET RECEIVE ROYAL SALUTE The Princess Royal is to help launch Liverpool’s celebrations as the host port for the start of The Tall Ships’ Races 2008 this week. HRH Princes Anne will be visiting the Albert Dock on Friday, July 18 to tour two of the 60 vessels on show in the city until Monday, July 21.

The Clipper 07-08 yacht race finishes on 5 July 2008. The return of the Clipper ’07-’08 Round-the-World Yacht Race will be a maritime spectacle befitting a great river.
As the world’s fastest, non-professional, yachting race finishes at the entrance to the Mersey, a flotilla of boats will follow the international yachts up the river to a hero’s welcome for all.

Antony Gormley: Field For The British Isles St.Helens College, St.Helens Town Centre 20 June – 23 August 2008
Field for the British Isles is one of Antony Gormley’s best-loved works of art featuring 40,000 clay figures. And now, Field returns for the first time to St.Helens, the town where it was created 15 years ago.
The Superlambananas are now on show until 25 August 2008 125, two metre tall replicas of Taro Cheizo’s iconic SuperLambBanana sculpture have been painted, decorated and adorned by local artists, schools and community groups, to create a free to view, open air, public art spectacular.
