statement: | Laurence Payot’s practice finds its place at the edge of kitsch - falsely naïve, with a hint of irony. Questionning taste/bad taste, she plays with strong anonymous generic images using labour-intensive craft techniques. From glued beads in Me, Inside, 2005 to brush paintings on the entire surface of owned cars, in Art Car Project 06, 2006, she uses a varied r ange of materials to define a unique body of work.
